2A Boys Semifinal | Haines Stuns Unalakleet 42-41 in Final Seconds

Unalakleet's 17-game winning streak is over.

Haines scored five points in the final 1:43, rallying from behind to beat the reigning 2A state champion Wolfpack 42-41 in one of the best games of the tournament. The Glacier Bears advance to the 2A boys championship game at 17-5.

James Stickler was the catalyst down the stretch. He tied the game twice in the final two minutes and added two critical steals — the second one leading to a fastbreak layup off a feed from Kyran Sweet. Then with 11 seconds left, Sweet grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up and in to give Haines the lead for good. Stickler finished with 11 points. Sweet had nine.

Unalakleet had one last chance. Oliver Ivanoff stepped to the line with three seconds left, hit the first free throw to pull within one, then watched the second rattle off the rim. Haines survived.

The Wolfpack had their chances. Joshua Smith led Unalakleet with 17 points and Isaac Smith — last year's championship hero — added nine alongside Ivanoff. Carter Gray's third-quarter three had given Unalakleet a 39-37 lead with 2:43 remaining, a lead they couldn't protect.

Haines entered the tournament 4-0 in the playoffs after winning two games at regionals. They've now made it five straight.
