Grace Christian needed two years at the 4A level to win a state championship. Saturday night they got there.

The Grizzlies beat South Anchorage 48-39 to win the 4A Boys state championship at March Madness Alaska 2026 — the program's first title at the 4A level and third overall under coach Jason Boerger. Grace finished 25-4.

It was close through three quarters. Grace led 21-19 at halftime and pushed it to 34-29 after three. South kept the pressure on — Lucian Mikes was a presence in the third and Jamaha Souhala-Tuinei's putback pulled the Wolverines within 42-39 with under two minutes left. Everything Grace had built over 38 minutes was down to one possession.

The fourth quarter settled it. Grace outscored South 14-10 in the final period and Ashton Clarkson was the reason — scoring eight of those 14 points, including a layup with 39 seconds left to push it to 44-39 and four free throws to close it out. He finished with a game-high 17. His younger brother Brayden added 10, including both of Grace's threes. Chris Jones earned Player of the Game with 14 — the inside presence that kept South's defense honest all night.

South's Ezekiel Lealaisalanoa finished with 12 points as a freshman leading a team that reached the 4A final for the first time since 2022. Mikes was held to 6. The Wolverines finished 22-8 and gave Grace everything they had.

Last year Grace entered the tournament as the top seed and lost in the semifinals. That offseason had a purpose. Saturday it showed.

Boerger has now won three state titles as a head coach. His son Blake was on the floor for this one — the second time Boerger has coached a son to a championship after guiding older son Braeden to the 3A title in 2023. Two years at 4A. One championship. Grace Christian is the standard now.

Final: Grace Christian 48, South Anchorage 39 (4A Boys Championship)
